His Golden Materials

The BBC / HBO television series of His Dark Materials just wrapped to a satisfying conclusion, so I thought I’d take a look back at my own experience with these stories, the adaptations, and the world that Philip Pullman created. Wait, this was a YA thing? I was first introduced to the books that comprise […]

Things I’ve Greatly Enjoyed – Jan/Feb

Well hello everyone! It’s been a bit. I decided to just combine January and February into one post. Not for a lack of things I was enjoying, but more out of general malaise/lack of motivation to post. I am going to try to avoid that. It’s one of the reasons I’ve tried to work in […]

Things I’ve Greatly Enjoyed – December 2020

It’s time for another installment. I keep trying to think of a sexier title than that, but it has the advantage of really telling you on the tin what’s inside. This is a slightly odd month. A lot of year end lists are taking shape. I did my music list. But doing any other lists […]

Good Morning, Morning.

I am not, it must be said, a “morning person.” In fact, most of the time I roll out of bed at about 7:45am, put on some coffee, and then start work around 8am. I am grateful, especially in the strange times we’re all currently living in, to be working from home. It saves me […]

Take me away…

For me, there are few things as freeing as putting my phone very far away and reading a book. Just the act of focusing my attention somewhere else for a long while is refreshing and reinvigorating. I’m reading David Mitchell’s “Utopia Avenue” by the way.

Happy Birthday to Me. AKA New Books

Happy Birthday to me! New books! 3 of the 4 are Gaiman related. I would say I’m on a Gaiman kick but I don’t really get off a Gaiman kick I just pause. I was due for a reread of American Gods as I’ve not read it since it first came out, and the cool […]

Comics I’ve Read – Vertigo Edition – 12/13/15

So, this time i’m focusing on the recent spate of titles from DC’s Vertigo imprint. As always, these are spoiler-free capsule reviews! As always, you can see all my past capsule reviews here: #newcomics. Just as a preface, this recent burst of titles has been interesting. It feels like Vertigo wants to reclaim some of […]

Comics I’ve Read – All New, All Different Marvel!

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. I’ve gotten really far behind on my comics reading, and have the stack to prove it, sadly. I’ve been catching up, but not leaving a lot of time for micro-reviews. I thought, with the launch of new (all new) and different (some not so different) […]

Our Lives Are Not Our Own

“Our lives are not our own. We are bound to others, past and present, and by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future.” – Cloud Atlas I’ve been thinking a lot about that quote the last few days. I need to re-watch the movie soon. I still love it to pieces, even if […]

Finally read through the gorgeous and intriguing Penny Dreadful book. Really well done. The artistry on display in the creation of the series is so inspiring. Love this series so much. The attention to detail in its creation is really amazing.
