I posted about it on social, and now here’s the official journal post about it! Signed in triplicate! I’m very excited to announce this book is now published and looks amazing. Sarah Jane Smith: Roving Reporter is a charity book from Pencil Tip Publishing, featuring stories throughout Sarah Jane’s adventures! It also features a ton of great artwork, and a foreword by Elizabeth Sladen’s daughter, Sadie Miller. I also have a short 6-page comic strip in it, which is really my love letter to Lis Sladen, Sarah Jane, and Doctor Who fandom. The first page is below, as a teaser. You can buy it here.

Lis Sladen’s death hit me hard. Really hard. Harder than any death of someone I didn’t know personally. Only Bowie has come close, really. I’ve talked about that and how I got into Doctor Who before. So, I’ll just say that being a part of this book meant a lot for me, especially as all the proceeds are going to the British Columbia Cancer Foundation. And the fact that this was sort of my “swan song” for fan fiction stories as I focused on my own writing. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve never been much of a fan fiction writer, but I have done a lot of illustrations, some articles, and some short comics. I always enjoyed them, but there comes a time when you really have to focus you energies. So I put everything I could into making this comic the absolute best I could do.

I finished it almost two years ago, in August 2019. Books with a lot of contributors take time to wrangle, though, and I definitely think the final book is well worth the effort and time. Certainly getting it in hand I’ve thought so! I’m excited to dive into it and read more.

Sarah Jane Smith:
Roving Reporter

It’s all about Sarah Jane Smith. Sarah Jane Smith – without a doubt, the most popular Doctor Who travelling companion of all time. An investigative journalist – confident, courageous, compassionate, inquisitive – possessing a sharp mind and tongue, and unabashedly feminist. Sarah Jane Smith: Roving Reporter is a celebration of the lives of Sarah Jane Smith and Elisabeth Sladen. All net proceeds from this publication will be donated in support of the British Columbia Cancer Foundation, the fundraising partner of the BC Cancer Agency and the largest charitable funder of cancer research in this province.

The book can be purchased through Lulu. It’s $21.99 USD for the paperback.
