In preparation for Avengers: Infinity War, I’m watching all the Marvel Studios movies leading up to it.
Iron Man 3 (2013)
This ended up being a little controversial when it came out (despite making all the money) and I still see some divided opinions about it. My feelings about the movie are not conflicted at all. I think it’s brilliant. I love all the choices it makes. I love the script. I love that Tony is out of the suit for large chunks of it. I love the way the Mandarin is handled here, Ben Kingsley’s performance is wonderful, and it’s so rare to have such a genuine, unexpected surprise in a superhero movie, to be honest. I am a big fan of Tony and Harley’s interactions as well. Sure, we knew the ending wasn’t going to stick when Tony blew up all his suits. But it was a nice gesture for Pepper. Also, I thought the moment with Pepper in the end was a blast. Iron Man 3 didn’t really play it safe in a lot of ways, which is why I think it’s one of the best of the MCU movies.
