One of the joys of going into a smaller independent movie is that it’s possible to go into it knowing nothing about it. I just loved the poster for this movie on a previous visit to the Champaign Urbana Art Theater Co-op, and decided I wanted to go. I didn’t even watch a trailer.
Now, that can turn out badly. But with Kumiko, it made the experience all the more amazing. I loved this movie. Definitely one of my favorites of the year so far. It’s beautifully shot and acted. It’s hilarious. It’s sad. It’s… pretty much perfect.
I certainly highly recommend it. And I recommend going into it knowing NOTHING about it. 🙂
